ABORA

Task:
Logo, CI

Client:
ABORA is the name of an interdisciplinary research project by Dr. Dominique Görlitz that deals with the legacy of human civilizations. He is best known for his ABORA reed boat expeditions across the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic.

Design Idea:
The design of the ABORA logo is rooted in the rich symbolism of human history. Inspired by the pyramids, which stand as enduring symbols of ancient ingenuity, the logo encapsulates the essence of ABORA’s mission. The letter "A" in the logo is ingeniously crafted to resemble a pyramid, with an abstract sail of a reed boat integrated into the design. This combination not only evokes the image of hieroglyphs—ancient symbols of communication and history—but also ties directly to ABORA’s goal of traversing the oceans using ancient shipbuilding techniques. The logo functions effectively as a standalone icon, representing both the journey through history and the physical journeys ABORA undertakes.

Typography: The typography for ABORA utilizes "Trajan Sans Pro," a font that strikes a balance between the ancient and the modern. Its classic yet accessible design ensures readability while subtly emphasizing the project’s connection to antiquity.

Color Scheme: The color palette draws inspiration from the natural world, specifically the warm tones of the desert and the deep blues of the sea. These colors not only align with the project’s thematic focus on ancient civilizations and seafaring but also create a cohesive visual identity that is both timeless and contemporary.

Outcome:
The ABORA logo successfully communicates the project’s dedication to exploring and preserving human heritage. Its strong visual ties to historical symbols like the pyramid and hieroglyphs, combined with the modern and readable typography, make it both meaningful and memorable. The choice of colors further enhances this connection, appealing to an audience that values both historical depth and visual sophistication. In sum, the logo and visual identity serve as a powerful representation of ABORA’s mission and vision, resonating with those who are passionate about the past and its relevance to the present.
